The Weekend that was...

The generosity, spirit and enthusiasm here in the Valley still amazes me. Whenever there is a need for help and support, be it a fundraiser for Brigadoon, or to even help a local dance team fulfill their dreams, the Valley always seems to come together and dig deeper to help in any way it can. This past weekend was a perfect example.

Brigadoon's Camp out for Kids was a great event I and my fellow Magic 94.9 Misfits had the pleasure of being a part of. Together with many local businesses and organizations, we were able to raise $49, 582! Plus, new to Camp Out this year, the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union took part and made a $10,000 donation to Brigadoon! They also brought with them the biggest, baddest potato launcher known to man. "The Briga-Boom" was so impressive that I'm sure Camp Aldershot is interested in the design.

The Gamer Geeks however, did not show any signs of potato-gun envy, as Czar and Ronin, normally confined to their parents' basement, came out and represented the Misfits proudly with a first-place finish in the hand-held launcher category.

Thanks to all of the teams for a great time, and for their unbelievable generosity.

I also happened to catch Dance ConXion at their fundraising car wash on Sunday, so I had to stop by for a wash and a picture with the girls, who have been invited to attend a huge dance World Cup in Vancouver over the Canada Day Weekend! Good luck girls!

Time for a Camp Out!

Teams from all over the valley and beyond are set to land at the Aylesford Lake Yaught Club for Brigadoon's Camp Out For Kids! Team members will enjoy the all-night event tonight, testing their golf drives, potato gun acuracy and dance moves in support of Brigadoon, a facility being built on Aylesford Lake for children and youth living with chronic illness.

Thanks in advance to all the teams and fundraisers, which will help to make this year, what I'm willing to expect, the best yet!

I swung the clubs for the first time of the season at the Bucket Club in Coldbrook with cruiser guy Andrew Foote on Friday. A broken 7 Wood, and a mild high ankle sprain later...I was ready for the Rotary Club of New Minas Charity Golf Scramble at Ken-Wo Golf and C.C. for Big Brothers and Sisters of the Annapolis Valley. Well...as ready as I was going to get.

Thanks to Bob, and Peter and Pam from Invisible Fence for the laughs, and for putting up with my golf swing.

...If only we could golf without the pressure of the paparazzi...

The Magic 94.9 Misfits helped celebrate the Valley Drive-in's 10th birthday in Cambridge with the Coldbrook and District Lions Club. Even though the weather wasn't the greatest we still had a great time giving away prizes, having cake and enjoying funny family movies "How the Train Your Dragon" and "Furry Vengeance". "How to Train your Dragon" was great...I only cried once.

Make sure you get a chance to visit the Coldbrook and District Lions' Valley Drive-in in Cambridge during its tenth season!

Middleton Relay For Life

Thanks to EHS...we still had our eye on the game!

I had the honour of emceeing the 2010 Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life in Middleton this past weekend. I couldn't believe after all the rain that we'd had, that the skies cleared and we had a perfect night for the relay. I also couldn't believe the spirit and generosity of the teams and the courage and strenghth of the hundreds of survivors in attendance. The Middleton relay for Life raised $180,000! That along with $60,000 from Digby and $60,000 from Windsor...the valley Relays raised $300,000!..and Kentville is still to come this weekend.

Thank you to everyone who made the event another great success!
