A Very Misfit Weekend

The Misfits were out in full force over the weekend, starting with an incredible display of how not to bowl. It was a great time, and the Misfits were proud to retain their title of "Top Fundraiser". We were more proud of the fact that in total, all teams combined raised more than $30,000!! That is awesome...and we couldn't have done it without your help. So if you sponsored a bowler...many thanks. And the best part? The money stays right here in the valley :)

Then it was off to the Kingston Arena on Sunday for the last episode of "Misfits on Ice"...as we accepted a challenge from the Kingston Fire Dept. Smokies. It was a hard-fought battle, but the Misfits just couldn't hold on...again...and ended up dropping a 6-4 decision. Between Jerry Neville's tight-fitting, spandex-looking jersey, and my bad skating...we never really had a chance anyway. The best part?? We raised $400 to Joints in Motion, which is great, so we thank the Smokies and you for all your support!

It's FRIDAY!!!!!!

It's the end of an era on the Early Show today. We say good-bye to our friends at Wacky Wheatley's...great sponsors of the longest-running contest in the valley...Wacky Words. I'd like to thank Wacky's, Mike and his staff for their support over the years, and making Wacky Words a favorite part of the show. Don't miss today's final draw at 7:20 for the MP3 kit and tickets to Monte Carlo Night at KingsTec!

On the Road!!!

I'll be on the road today at Kentville Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Kentville between 11:00 and 2:00...to talk about my favorite things...cars! The gang there is great, and I can't wait to spend the day with them. Plus Mama bear Brule works there...so I'll have to be on my best behavior :)
Then...it's off to corporate night for Bowl For Kids at Fairlanes in New Minas. Thanks for your donation, and making sure kids in our community don't miss out on all the fun the valley has to offer!

Tomorrow's Early Show!

There was an interesting story out of Newfoundland this morning, that seems to have caused quite the debate.

The Eastern School District in Newfoundland has developed guidelines capping the amount of homework that students can be given. The move follows complaints from some parents that children were being over-tasked after hours. They also expressed concern about homework being assigned during holidays. Director of Education Darrin Pike says they developed the guidelines after a consultation process. Kindergarten students are now limited to 10 minutes while primary students can do no more than 30 minutes. Teachers can assign elementary students 40 minutes of work, intermediate an hour, and high school students one to two hours.

Do you think this should be implemented here in the valley?

Let me know your thoughts...and I'll share some tomorrow on the Early Show. Send them to hunter.brule@magic949.ca

"Leading Lady" Coby Milne will be on the show tomorrow to talk about this weekend's final performances of "Leading Ladies" at Kings Edgehill in Windsor...and we'll say good-bye to our friends at Wacky Wheatley's with the final playing of Wacky Words at 7:20.

Pizza and Purple

The Misfits and Acadia Athletes had a great time at the Greenwood Mall as we wrapped up March Break with a Pizza Party! After watching the kids play Wii tennis, I decided it wouldn't be right to show my true skills...actually, I was afraid of personal humiliation and didn't even put myself in the position to lose to 6 year-olds.

Tomorrow is Purple Day! I had a great chat on the Early Show today with Michelle Coole, who was headed to EMS and New Minas Elementary schools to raise awarness about children with epilepsy. What started as an idea from 9 year-old Cassidy Megan of Halifax, has turned into an international awareness day, which will feature the CN Tower in Toronto, and Niagara falls being bathed in purple light tomorrow night. It is really great that such an important cause started with a little Nova Scotian :)

Don't forget to wear Purple Tomorrow!

Watchmen Review

So I saw Watchmen last night...all 163 minutes of it. DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! Yes, it is a DC Comic book adaptation, but a cute little fun cominc book movie this is not! It is rated R for everything that R rated movies are rated R for...yes everything.

Now, as far as the movie goes...to sum it up...bizarre. I was a big fan of director Zack Snyder's other stuff, like most recently 300...which was very cool...and of his earlier work on a little video back in 1990 he directed called "Michael Jordan's Playground" for obvious reasons. This is a perfect representation of a graphic novel, or in this case comic book, because this movie my friends...is graphic. From the opening scene to the end credits, all your senses will be tested...from the likes of power tools to butcher knives...you will see...well...you will see lots.

I was pleased to discover that one of the heroes, Dr. Manhatten, is played by Billy Crudup, whom was great in Big Fish and Almost Famous. Two movies you must see, if you have yet to enjoy them. you get to see Dr. Manhatten quite a bit...too much of him as a matter of fact...in all his blue glory.

After leaving the theatre without a solid opinion, and letting the images I absorbed over the coarse of the near three hours settle in, I would recommend going to see this one on an empty stomach, and an open mind.

Please Give What You Can! :)

After months of practice playing Wii Bowling, The Magic 94.9 Misfits feel we are ready to hit the lanes at Fairlanes in New Minas for "Bowl For Kids Sake" March 27th! It's for a great cause, with all monies raised going to kids in our community. If you could make a donation, it would be greatly appreciated! Please click on the link that looks like this on magic949.ca and type in your favorite announcers' name in the space provided...my name is spelled B-R-U-L-E..:) Thanks a bunch!!
