Avatar: simply amazing.
By far...the best movie I've ever experienced. AVATAR 3D was absolutely incredible. Jaw-dropping.
James Cameron's latest epic launched over the weekend and made $232 million worldwide -- $73 million in North America and $159 million overseas. It would appear the film is well on its way to paying off the estimated $400 million spent to make and market the film.... While the best non-holiday December opening is still owned by I Am Legend, film industry experts think Avatar could have beat that record had it not been for the winter storms on the East Coast, and I think it crush all records. Why? Because, like me...of those millions of people who went to see it, I'm sure more than half will be going back to experience it again. I can't say anything more but to do yourself a favour and...
GO SEE IT.

Who will be 2009 Person of the Year? Office Kitty Karaoke anyone?
Consider yourself lucky if your employer is throwing you a Christmas party this year. About half (49 percent) of businesses say they’re planning an employee holiday party this year, with 10 percent saying this year will be the first year they won’t have a party after years of having an event. So enjoy the experience of "Love Shack" karaoke with your boss while you still can.
Time Magazine will announce its Person of the Year tomorrow morning. On the short list is Apple CEO Steve Jobs; Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke; the Chinese Worker ("They are an increasingly influential group in one of the world's most powerful economies"); Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi; Stanley McChrystal, the commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistanl; Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt; and Barack Obama. I'm betting I know who it WON'T be...(rhymes with Smiger Smoods).

On the Set of "Fitz"
I finally got the call!
I had a chance to work on the set of "Meet Fitz", the series starting Jason Priestly, yesterday in Kentville! We were at the Cornwallis Inn, and if you were in Kentville yesterday, I'm sure you saw all the big trucks lined up. We shot a few different scenes for a an episode of the series. I can't give anything of the plot away, but it seems like it is going to be a funny series...for adults:)
It was great to see a lot of familiar faces and local actors in background roles. I got there right after the show yesterday morning, and was there right through until 8:30 last night. I was in a couple of scenes, and between takes there was a lot of sitting around. So if you get called to act as a background actor...expect to be there a minimum 12 hours!
It was a lot of fun though, and a great experience. Unfortunately cameras weren't allowed on set, so I couldn't take any pictures.
The crew was great and treated us very well, hopefully I'll be back!

The "Best Of/Worst OF" lists are starting to Roll in!
WORST INVENTIONS OF 2009...according to Time magazine
• Time Magazine has named NASA’s Ares Rocket as the Best Invention of 2009, saying it “dazzled even the skeptics.” But they also came up with the worst inventions of the year.
• The Smile Police: Employees at Keihin Electric Express Railway in Japan have their smiles scanned by software to maximize cheeriness
• The Jane Austen Monster Mashup Novel: It started with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Please let it end soon.
• Snuggies for Dogs: It's bad enough that humans wear "the blanket with sleeves." Do we have to put them on dogs as well?
• The Gas-Mask Bra: You have to admire the good intentions of the inventor who made a bra that converts handily into a pair of gas masks
• Computer Critics: A new standardized test in the U.K. will use software, not humans, to grade student essays. Shakespeare wept.

Olympic Torch Relay
The Olympic Torch passed through the Annapolis Valley on Friday, and Magic 94.9 was right in the heart of the fun!
Seeing and holding the Torch was great...and meeting Mr. Ronald McDonald himself was awesome. I had met him when I was 3 years old, he didn't remember.
A very fun-filled day wrapped up at Dooly's in New Minas for Jingle Bell Rock. Thanks for coming out and showing your support for the Kinsmen and Kinette Christmas Miracle!

Tales from H.M.C.S. Fredericton
Husband of Magic 94.9 Sales Misfit Lisa Pudsey, and former Misfit himself, (and forever honourary :) Chris Pudsey is on board the H.M.C.S. Fredericton on an anti-piracy mission in the Middle East.
Pud will be contributing a few passages throughout his trip to the Blog, and passes along his first report...
Sup Honky Tonk! Heres my little update so far as we proceed to deal with the dreaded pirates.
Our first port visit was Barcelona, Spain. Here we saw someinteresting things like the church known as Sangrala Famalia. It wasoriginally built in the early 1800's and is still being built to this day. They expect it to take another 30-80 years to complete. If you are working on that church, you have some serious job security.
We also got to see the Olympic Stadium where the '92 Olympic games wereheld. While Barcelona is a beautiful city, there were some serious issues with pick-pocketting going on. Numerous members of the ship's company were robbed. Funny thing is, they are nice enough to give you your wallet back, they just wanted the cash. They would find interesting ways to return the wallet to you too. They would come up to you and ask you if you dropped it for example. Of course the cash was gone but at least you had your ID.
Our next visit was to an island called Malta. This was a beautiful island and one I recommend to anyone for a vacation destination. Here I got to see an old temple site called Hagar Qim. Its an old stone temple that is bigger than Stonehenge and older than the pyramids in Egypt! Very cool. Our next stop was Haifa, Israel. The only thing that was really interesting in Haifa was The Bahai Gardens. It is known as the 8th wonder of the world and I can see why. Very beautiful. We also took a tour bus and went to Jerusalem. Outstanding visit to the old city. I am not a religious person per say, but still very cool to say you were standing at the same place that Jesus was cruicified and buried, and to touch the rocks where he was anointed and the place where he spent his last evening alive praying. We also got to see the Jordanian desert and the Dead Sea.
The pics i am sending has me sitting in front of the Jordanian Desert and one of the Bahai Gardens.
Well thats all for now, until next time, take care!

Nanoo Nanoo...no...May the Force be with you...No...Live Long and Prosper...that's the one!
Trekkies rejoice!!!
The Star Trek re-boot hits D-V-D and Blu-Ray today.
No...not that Star Trek...
The saga starts with "Kirk" (Chris Pine) as an angry young man and "Spock" (Zachary Quinto) tortured by emerging emotions as a Romulan from the future threatens peace. It co-stars Eric Bana, Simon Pegg (as "Scotty"), Anton Yelchin (as "Chekov"), John Cho (as "Sulu") and Winona Ryder, slogging along on her comeback trail. The Worf-sized collection of extras includes a gag reel, deleted scenes and commentary plus features on the starships, planets, props and costumes.

It's Friday the 13th...consider yourself warned...
It's bad luck to:
Begin a new job or a trip
Cut off both ends of a loaf of bread
Flip your mattress
Put new shoes on the table
Leave your hat on the bed
Walk under a ladder
Pour water on a windowsill
Plant potatoes
Lean a broom on a bed
Open an umbrella indoors
Do housework
Wear new clothes
Cut your hair
Sneeze to your left side
Have a black cat cross your path

It's good luck to:
Cut your finger nails on a Friday to avoid a toothache during the month.
Take candy to a friend during your first visit of the New Year.
Pick the first violets of spring.
When you set the table, place the salt down first.
If you drop a spoon, expect friends to drop by soon.
If your left hand itches, money will come to you.
When you move to a new house, take a broom and a loaf of bread with you.
Put a red bow on a newborn baby.
Don't sweep dust out the front door or you'll sweep away good luck.
Make a wish when you see the first robin of spring. If it doesn't fly away before you finish wishing it'll come true.

Jason Priestly visits the Early Show!
My highschool girlfriends would be envious of today's guest on the show. Every Thursday in high school, a group of 10 or so of us would take turns host of Beverly Hills 90210 night. The other guys and I would say we were dragged to it every week, but truth be told...we were just as hooked on the lives of Brandon, Dillon, Brenda, Kelly, Donna and David.
It was great to have Jason Priestly on the show today! He's left the 90210 zip code, now he's in town filming a half-hour series which we'll see on HBO Canada under the working title of "Meet Fitz". He's loving the Valley, and he and his family we'll be here until January filming the show.

...of ferrets and flu-like felines...
Ricky Bobby Feelin' Fine...
Crazy story out of the states about the cat with H1N1 huh? If you missed the show this morning...
A cat in Iowa has tested positive for H1N1 flu, the first time a cat has been diagnosed with the new pandemic strain. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, the 13-year-old cat apparently caught the virus from one of the people living in the house. It has recovered and does not appear to have infected anyone or anything else. Pigs are the original source of the H1N1 virus and it has been found in several herds, as well as in a pet ferret. Ferrets are especially susceptible to human influenza viruses. An Iowa Department of Public Health vet said two of the three members of the family that owns the pet had suffered from influenza-like illness before the cat became ill.
...So if you notice your household pet going through an unusual amount of Advil Cold and Sinus, and Kleenex...get your fuzzy friend checked out. We have a ferret here in our Magic 94.9 family...and I'm pleased to report...Ricky Bobby's feeling just fine.

...all is silent from Habs fans...
WOW!!! I found a Leafs Stanley Cup picture in COLOUR!...NO MORE JOKES!!! It's going to be a great day...
What??! Not one wise-crack from a Habs fan this morning??! I suppose the day is still young :)
I thought the Leafs were going to pull it out in O.T. last night, but the Habs got another one, after the lack of brilliance from Leafs goalie Vesa Toskala. I think the Buds would have been better off with a pylon in goal...seriously...why hasn't he been sent to the Marlies yet??
I hope everyone had a great Hallowe'en...I found it rather quiet actually. It seemed that trick-or-treater numbers were down...maybe they all stayed in to watch The Leafs lose.
