It's Too Bad "That was It"...

I Picked up Michael Jackson's "This Is It" on Blu-ray yesterday. I was a big Michael Jackson fan when I was a kid, just like millions of other kids that ran around the house with one glove and begged their parents for a pair of leather pants. I even got the chance to see the Victory Tour at Exibition Stadium in Toronto, the Jacksons' biggest and final tour back in 1984. I was 9..and the feeling that night was simply magic. As I got older, the feeling wore off. Negative Press and the constant media attention quite frankly turned me off of the King of Pop.

With his passing last summer, and all the media attention suddenly turning positive, I was exposed to his character and his music once again, as the 25th Anniversary of Thriller was released, re-mixed and once again celebrated. That "magical" feeling I felt as a kid, returned for 111 minutes last night, as I sat and watched the making of what I believe would have been, the biggest and most inspiring concert Michael would have ever delivered. Even though we don't see the finished product, we do catch more than a glimpse of what could have been. The dancers, the special effects, the costumes, the re-creation of the Thriller segment in 3D...were all leaps and bounds ahead of what he'd ever done before.

If you are a fan, or...even if you didn't ever get him, or what he was about...you will after watching "This Is It".

It comes Highly recommended.

Sledding Under the Lights

"Sledding Under the Lights" was a great success Friday night at Memorial Park in Kentville. The town's crew sporting a giant inner tube, or even Jerry Neville's donated Toilet on skis, was no match for my fearless and speedy GT Snowracer.
Thanks to Mayor Corkum, Kevin, Mark, Nicole and everyone from the town involved with pulling off a great night...and to YOU for coming out and having fun with us!
I expect Kevin will have my trophy ready when he comes in for the Kentville Rec report Wednesday. I'm sure he's polishing it now :)

It's a Snow Day!

Prepare to be "wowed"

Dont dare to miss this amazing Video Clip . . first read it properly..

This video shows the winner of "Ukraine’s Got Talent", Kseniya Simonova, 24, drawing a series of pictures on an illuminated sand table showing how ordinary people were affected by the German invasion during World War II. Her talent, which admittedly is a strange one, is mesmeric to watch.

The images, projected onto a large screen, moved many in the audience to tears and she won the top prize of about £75,000.

She begins by creating a scene showing a couple sitting holding hands on a bench under a starry sky, but then warplanes appear and the happy scene is obliterated.

It is replaced by a woman’s face crying, but then a baby arrives and the woman smiles again. Once again war returns and Miss Simonova throws the sand into chaos from which a young woman’s face appears.

She quickly becomes an old widow, her face wrinkled and sad, before the image turns into a monument to an Unknown Soldier.

This outdoor scene becomes framed by a window as if the viewer is looking out on the monument from within a house.

In the final scene, a mother and child appear inside and a man standing outside, with his hands pressed against the glass, saying goodbye.

The Great Patriotic War, as it is called in Ukraine, resulted in one in four of the population being killed with eight to 11 million deaths out of a population of 42 million.

Kseniya Simonova says:
"I find it difficult enough to create art using paper and pencils or paintbrushes, but using sand and fingers is beyond me. The art, especially when the war is used as the subject matter, even brings some audience members to tears. And there’s surely no bigger compliment."

In Training...

The "Sledding Under the Lights" family night is all set to go Friday night at Kentville's Memorial park! Join the Magic 94.9 Misfits and Kentville Parks and Rec for a fun night of sledding and hot chocolate from 5:30-9:00.
Apparently The Rec Dept. has put out a race challenge for Jerry Neville and myself the night of the event, so of course, Jerry and I had to train for the big showdown...and we finished without breaking anything...the GT Snowracer or ourselves.

A star is born...

...and his name is General Larry Pratt! He provided a fun end to last nights' audition episode of American Idol with an original rap tune called "Pants on the Ground." Simon noted that the 62-year-old was just a bit over the 28-year-old age limit, but they were right on saying they probably have a star and hit on their hands already. It was a very funny television moment.

I've been waiting for this one...

"The Hurt Locker" is finally on video. It's recieved great reviews since its theatrical release last year, and the accolades keep rolling in...and I can't wait to pick it up today.

The Writers Guild of America yesterday announced their nominees for the 2010 Writers Guild Awards, and "The Hurt Locker" is right in the mix. The winners will be announced on Saturday, February 20, from a ceremony held in Los Angeles and New York. Last year's big winners were Milk and Slumdog Millionaire, both of which later took home an Oscar, so this might be an early sign that this is what we could see in a few weeks when nominations for the Academy Awards are announced.

Original Screenplay:
(500) Days of Summer - Written by Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber
Avatar - Written by James Cameron
The Hangover - Written by Jon Lucas & Scott Moore

Oh No! Canada No!

There's the new chant unfortunately. Canada lost the tough 6-5 battle to team USA at the World Jr. Hockey Championships last night...but as they say you can't win 'em all. "They" this morning would refer to snickering Americans. Next year's tournament is in Buffalo, with USA owning the pressure of defending champions. But until then...it's the Olympics and watching the Leafs lose...ah the joy of hockey.

New Year's Resolutions...from the dog.

So Far so Good...I haven't swayed from my New Year's Diet...it's only been 9 hours...and I already want to ransack the box of chocolates someone left here at the front desk of Magic 94.9 Studios.

My dog however, seems to have a longer list than I, and so far...so good.

Over the weekend I found Jake's list of resolutions.

Check these out...

Resolution #1: I will eat less and exercise more.Too many nights on the couch, too many dog biscuits and too little time running has made me a little, well, fluffier. I don't think the old "I'm-just-big-boned" excuse will work anymore. Iresolve to bug Hunter to take me to the park several times a week.

Resolution #2: I will beg less. I've got begging down to a fine art -- he's putty in my paws -- but it sure is demeaning. I promise to reserve the begging for worthwhile things, like going for a ride in the car and T-bone steak.

Resolution #3: I will recognize the difference between furniture and fire hydrants. I promise not to treat the furniture and walls the way I do fire hydrants. It drives Hunter batty and has no lasting benefit for me.

Resolution #4: I'll stay out of the Carter's litter box.I vow to resist the urge to snoop around the cat's private lavatory -- even though it's a lot of fun and really makes him go nuts.

Resolution #5: I won't bite the vet anymore. I'll remember that the vets and their staff are just trying to help in their own, inscrutable way, although they really know how to push my buttons with those needles.

Resolution #6: I won't steal food as much. I won't go out of my way to steal food, although all bets are off if they make it really easy for me.

Resolution #7: I'll introduce myself in more appropriate ways. In other words, I'll focus above the waist when introducing myself to humans.

Resolution #8: I'll do better "holding it" until morning. When nature calls, I'll steel my resolve to wait for my normal morning walk, unless special considerations apply. I'll decide what those special considerations are.

Resolution #9: I'll bark at the mailman less. Even though it works to put him in his place, I'll try not to exercise my authority over him and other delivery people, although my self-esteem does get a boost when they retreat.

Resolution #10: I'll tolerate those Toronto Maple Leafs bandannas more. Hunter has gone to a lot of trouble to make find and buy these things, so I'll just put up with the way they feel and the teazing from other dogs.

Jake.
