Grown Ups...a good laugh.
Even the negative review from Roger Ebert didn't stop me from wanting to to see Grown Ups. With a cast that includes comic heavyweights Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider, I had to check it out...and I'm glad I did.
I highly recommend checking out Grown Ups if you need a good laugh. There's nothing unexpected...just pure summer fun, wrapped up in 102 minutes. It was like spending a saturday night with a few buddies...and you can tell that's exactly how the comics went into this one, as you can tell these guys get along and are best of buds behind the cameras too.
It's not going to win any awards, but it wins my vote as another great summer comedy...check it out.
Also, rented The Perfect Getaway last night, starring Steve Zahn. No big star-power here...but if you like suspense, and movies you think you have figured out while watching it, but then realize you were way off...then this is worth a look too, I really liked it.
Tomorrow's new video releases include The Crazies...and Hot Tub Time machine. I've never been a big zombie movie fan, but I try to never miss a hot tub party.

Draft Nights
Last night was the NBA Draft...as a Raptors fan, I was happy as one could be when picking 13th...The Raps landed UNC's Ed Davis. He won't be a game changer, but he will work hard, as his dad former NBA player Terry Davis did for ten years in the league previous.
Tonight...is the NHL Draft...as a Leafs fan...I think I'll have to stick my head in the sand as Boston takes Tyler Seguin of the Plymouth Whalers...second overall...the pick the Leafs traded away for Phil Kessel...the trade I'm reminded about everyday by friends and my fellow media. Oh well, even though the Leafs don't have a first...or second round pick, I'm sure Leafs GM Brian Burke will at least blow up the team and start over again...again.
There must be reruns of Seinfeld to watch on tv tonight isn't there?

Rolling Thunder...
My fellow Magic 94.9 Misfits and I had the opportunity to visit The Bridgestone Firestone Travelling Exibit yesterday...and let's just say, I will never ever think of changing my career to pursue a future in F1.
I had a crack at the F1 simulator that was on site, and crack is a word I use purposely, as I'm sure if the virtual F1 car I was racing were real, it would be full of them. Magic 94.9 commerial-writer-guy Gary Caven finished a very proud 1st in his race, although I think there must have been a malfunction with the simulator as he drove it, or a glitch with the A.I. opponents in his particular race...it is the only explanation after I drove to my full potential...a respectful 15th...out of 15. Thanks to Bill and Dale from Bridgestone Firestone for a great time!
If you missed the exhibit, catch it all day today at the Grand Opening of O.K. Tire in Kingston.

The Weekend that was...
The "Gamer Geeks" emerged from their parent's basement! Catch them Tuesday mornings at 7:35 am on the Magic 94.9 Early Show!
Dave McKeage...Executive Director of Brigadoon...why we were all there...it was his dream that has become reality. (For more on Brigadoon, see blog entry below).
the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union "Briga-BOOM" potato launcher...responsible for some serious projectile produce.
Gamer Geeks Czar and Ronin with the Misfit Potato Howitzer...classic design = serious distance.

Jim Lamb of Meadowbrook Farm Meat Market with the AWESOME Spiced Pork Burgers!
The generosity, spirit and enthusiasm here in the Valley still amazes me. Whenever there is a need for help and support, be it a fundraiser for Brigadoon, or to even help a local dance team fulfill their dreams, the Valley always seems to come together and dig deeper to help in any way it can. This past weekend was a perfect example.
Brigadoon's Camp out for Kids was a great event I and my fellow Magic 94.9 Misfits had the pleasure of being a part of. Together with many local businesses and organizations, we were able to raise $49, 582! Plus, new to Camp Out this year, the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union took part and made a $10,000 donation to Brigadoon! They also brought with them the biggest, baddest potato launcher known to man. "The Briga-Boom" was so impressive that I'm sure Camp Aldershot is interested in the design.
The Gamer Geeks however, did not show any signs of potato-gun envy, as Czar and Ronin, normally confined to their parents' basement, came out and represented the Misfits proudly with a first-place finish in the hand-held launcher category.
Thanks to all of the teams for a great time, and for their unbelievable generosity.
I also happened to catch Dance ConXion at their fundraising car wash on Sunday, so I had to stop by for a wash and a picture with the girls, who have been invited to attend a huge dance World Cup in Vancouver over the Canada Day Weekend! Good luck girls!

Time for a Camp Out!
Sunny, high: 29. Perfect weather for a Camp Out!
Teams from all over the valley and beyond are set to land at the Aylesford Lake Yaught Club for Brigadoon's Camp Out For Kids! Team members will enjoy the all-night event tonight, testing their golf drives, potato gun acuracy and dance moves in support of Brigadoon, a facility being built on Aylesford Lake for children and youth living with chronic illness.
Thanks in advance to all the teams and fundraisers, which will help to make this year, what I'm willing to expect, the best yet!
Magic 94.9 is the exclusive radio media sponsor for the event, and is very proud to be a huge part of it! Go Misfits!
