Another busy weekend in the books!
Middleton was a blast, starting with the Grand Street Parade Friday night. The weather could have been better...it's funny how parades so far this summer seem to be rain magnets, but what can you do. Saturday, the wet weather continued, but the rain decided to give the crowd at Rotary Raceway park a break late afternoon, so it could enjoy the great sounds of Rylee Madison, Slowcoaster and Matt Minglewood. By the time Minglewood took the stage, the park was packed and everyone in attendance was having a great time before we set our eyes to the sky to witness an unbelievable fireworks display. The town of Middleton spared no expense to make sure the 100th anniversary fireworks were amazing, and it surely did not disappoint.
Sunday I was off to Upper Clements Parks for Parkpalooza 2009, and it was another water-logged day for the most part. It rained like I've never seen it rain before in ages when the gates opened at 11:00 a.m., but then the skies later cleared and became a perfect day at the park.
We were treated to some great entertainment inside the tent courtesy of our three competitors, Demi Beaumier, Laura Roy and Kristy Doyle...and by the end of this round, it was the very talented Laura Roy of Canning who walked away with $250 and a chance at $500 at the finale August 31st, and a paid gig at Upper Clements Parks next season. You can hear Laura this Friday, where she will be competing for another cash prize at the RBC Mud Creek Days Talent Show, at the Al Whittle Theatre at 7pm.
Jerry Neville and I kicked off our Heart & Stroke Walkabout Challenge today. For two weeks, we are wearing pedometers and are walkin to win...bragging rights. You can win too! Guess how many steps I'll have at the end of my first day, and you'll win your own Walkabout Pedometer tomorrow morning. Email your guess to hunter.brule@magic949.ca, and the closest guess to the actual number of steps on my pedometer tomorrow morning will win. Make sure to include your contact info. That's it for today...I have to get steppin'...
